Easy (3)
Isaac
Starting Item: The D6
The default character with balanced stats. Starts with The D6 after unlocking it, allowing rerolls of item pedestals for better options.
Magdalene
Starting Item: Yum Heart
A tanky character with extra health and the Yum Heart active item, which heals one red heart container on use. Great for beginners.
Azazel
Starting Item: Mini Brimstone
Starts with flight and a short-range Brimstone laser. Very powerful in early floors but the short range becomes a challenge later.
Medium (7)
Cain
Starting Item: Lucky Foot
Starts with higher luck and the Lucky Foot trinket, which improves pill outcomes and room rewards. Lower health but better drops.
Eve
Starting Item: Whore of Babylon
Gains a significant damage boost when at half a heart or less via Whore of Babylon. Rewards risky, low-health playstyles.
Samson
Starting Item: Bloody Lust
Gains a temporary damage boost for each enemy killed in a room through Bloody Lust. Excels in rooms with many enemies.
Lazarus
Starting Item: Lazarus Rags
Revives with increased damage upon death thanks to Lazarus Rags. Essentially gives two attempts at each run.
Eden
Starting Item: Random
Starts with completely randomized stats and items each run. Requires an Eden Token to play. Every run is a unique experience.
Lilith
Starting Item: Box of Friends
Blindfolded and cannot shoot directly. Relies on an Incubus familiar to deal damage. Box of Friends doubles all familiars for the current room.
Apollyon
Starting Item: Void
Starts with the Void active item, which absorbs other items and gains their passive effects or triggers their active effects on use.
Hard (4)
Judas
Starting Item: Book of Belial
A glass cannon with only one heart container but the highest starting damage. Book of Belial grants a massive damage boost for the current room.
The Lost
Starting Item: Holy Mantle
Has no health and dies in one hit, but starts with spectral tears, flight, and Holy Mantle which blocks one hit per room. Can take all Devil Room items for free.
Keeper
Starting Item: Wooden Nickel
Uses coins as health instead of hearts. Triple Shot tears and Wooden Nickel for coin generation. Very challenging but rewarding.
The Forgotten
Starting Item: Bone Club
A unique dual-form character. Melee bone club form and a ghost (The Soul) form with spectral tears and flight. Switch between forms freely.
